The 8th Mission, founded January 12th 1777. Named for Saint Clare of Assisi, a 13th century Italian nun, founder of the Poor Clares
Mission Santa Clara was the first mission named for a woman, Saint Clare of Assisi. This is the only mission situated on a college campus, Santa Clara University.
