The 1st Mission, founded July 16 1769.  Named for Saint Didacus of Alcala a 15th century Spanish Franciscan

Also known as “Mother of the Missions” San Diego was the first and the southern-most mission founded in 1769.  In 1976 Pope Paul VI designated the church a Minor Basilica.
