I began taking photographs as a young person and soon ventured into the work of drawing and painting. Now I create art with the use of many different medium's and from anything I find in my environment.

I am inspired by nature and particularly the California landscape. Through my work I strive to capture the beauty of images from my daily life and to convey the emotional content of a moment. The changing light of the day and the mood it creates are the foundation of my work in photography, painting, pastel and ceramics.

I use color and light to create compositions with stark contrast.

Sometimes the vast beauty of the landscape and the feeling of isolation and aloneness of this world overwhelm me. At other times I paint familiar objects and explore intimate relationships. I am fascinated by the contrast of life - being alone and together, touching and yet not touching, the internal and external, light and dark, movement and stillness.

In addition to studying geology in college I studied art at UC Santa Barbara and Humboldt State University. I have been making art in El Cerrito for the last 15 years and have taught art to children and adults.
